Guimaras: The Seven Sins

December 25, 2010 - Guimaras

Happy Christmas!
When most people opted to stay at home and eat a lot,
i chose to stay under the sun and break some rules.

Well, breaking is not the right term.. it's.. hmm disobedience maybe.

After having lunch with my family (i remember eating lechon paksiw :D)
and having chitchats with my grandpa (in English..i dont speak ilonggo eh!)
my wicked (hehe!) sister suggested we go to Guimaras.
I was struck, she of all people! She who only wears sleeveless tops
and shorts at home. it was a hallelujah moment. :)

Then my dad dint like the idea. of course.
so we told him we're just gonna take some pictures at fort san pedro,
and watch guimaras from there.

Well i had no plan of just sitting by the stretch, drooling and wondering
what's in the nearby island.. And i was not alone with the idea.

But you know that feeling that sumthing bad may happen when u
disobey ur parents? I had that, but u knw im stubborn. :)

Guimaras island is just 25-min away from Iloilo port, by boat.
Costs u Php13.00 to cross.

u really have to practice balancing here

i dint notice soon enuf that the guy beside me kept on talking to himself.. really

dats my manang nene, sister connie and my nephew

this is far better than a hammock.. :D

buenavista here we come!

that's Ang Balaang Krus - located at a mountaintop in Jordan..

Had ate suggested this earlier, we woudve had ample time to trek and
see this sacred place and roll. :)

Anyway, the best time to go there is on Holy Week. :)

the 10 commandment's engraved on that "tablet"
When we reached there, we realized transportation wud be a problem.
Hey we werent some foreigners; why wud i pay 600 pesos for a multicab
to take us to a resort for just an hour?

So, we rented a tricyle and paid 350 after.. paets.
We headed to El Retiro Beach, only to find out it's closed.
Twas Christmas Day, that's why.

On our way, ive had weird thoughts.
I remembered Korina's segment about aswangs and the like.
Then some movies on backpackers not being able to go home.
It was kinda creepy.

reminds me of the movie Wrong Turn..

this one's shake, rattle and roll

then the bad feeling went away.. :)

two of the siete pecados islands
The Siete Pecados, also known as The Seven Sins is a group of seven islets scattered
at the coast of Buenavista. My grandma used to tell us about the tale behind
these islets. There were once seven virgins who disobeyed their mother and
went to a dance gathering (bay-le) in the nearby island.
Their boat capsized and they transformed into these seven islets.
The biggest being the eldest, and now has the lighthouse that i was
eying to go.

Well, the moral of the story is.. i wont tell u coz i'll burn. hehe

Reached Iloilo port at dusk, and went to buy souvenirs
and delicacies. We were leaving for Cebu the next day.
And when you're in Iloilo, never miss going to Mercy bakeshop.

At night, my brother and I sneaked out. We went to Jaro.
There's the Candelaria church and it's belfry that i ddnt feel
like missing. Perfect timing, a number of ukay2 (second hand clothes)
stalls were lined up and a carnival was there too. :)

proof of how abundant our culture is :)

One day i'll go back to Guimaras.
Particularly in Jordan, i think it has a lot more to offer
than Buenavista. Also, OMG i seriously had no idea that the island
is known for many huge mango plantation, not just ordinary mango,
but the export kind.

This wasnt planned at all, but most best experiences are
those which are unexpected.

It's a Date!

I get this question a lot: "Are you and xxx dating?"

Honestly, what does dating mean? Wait gimme 5 mins to google.
"An engagement to go out socially with another person, often out of romantic interest."

Based on that, let me recall the instances and my experience on dating..
Randomly, I may have forgotten some (I'll update once I remember! promise!)

*At the shore, almost dusk with 2 chaperons. I was 12, he was my neighbor. We barely looked
at each other, we never actually talked. I was looking at my friends when they started laughing.
He had colds, and "something" came out from his nose.. Too bad I missed that scene.

Hahaha! I cant stop grinning here. That's hilarious right. Lemme think about more..

*While running some errands with other girl scouts, we went somewhere far near the mangroves.
The others even teased some witch lived in that place. And then the guy met us there, along with his
friends. He was 2 yrs ahead of me. They helped us (as far as I cud rmbr),
and we were holding hands while walking, on our way back to the camp site.
Of course I held his hand, it was getting dark, wat if there really was a witch?
(wahahah defensive!)

* I was 14. At a youth camp, there was this gay guy who announced (yes, announced)
to his friends that he liked me. gosh. So they set me up. LOL
At the last night after the closing program, he came to me, and asked me to dance.
I politely danced with him, and stared at his face.
Gosh, he had his eyebrows plucked. I thought mine were thicker!
Well it wasnt a date of course, but I cudnt afford to miss mentioning that in here! :D

Hmmm, let's get more romantic. Reminisce. Reminisce. Reminisce.

* Talking and joking at the park, with the mosquitoes. gosh.
Laugh-laugh, and then slap-slap. and there's scratch-scratch.

* How bout riding in a cable car, with super-duper strong winds?
And then somebody shouted, "we're gonna die!" twice.
That's a pretty romantic way to die. (kidding!)

* You should try watching a movie and not talking till the movie's over.
And then u'd tell urself it's better if ur alone, maybe u cudve screamed and murmured
without being so conscious.

* How bout sleeping while watching a movie and then ur date awakens u
saying uve been grinding ur teeth.. cool right?

*Going out on a very cold day. literally cold. like below 10 deg celsius.
And then smiling a lot, even with fingernails and lips turning purple.
I cudnt wait to go home. hee hee

* Sat at a corner with my guitar, played some songs, sang not caring bout the ppl around.
Did a little wave boarding after. I suck at balancing.

* Is shopping a kind of dating? Coz I was so romantically inclined to those
sale items!

*Food trip as a date. First, ate at a pungko2x stall.
Went to the mall to eat halo2x. Met my best friend and ate quesadillas.
I cudnt believe I even craved for banana cue. LOL
It was a bountiful date! I could get obese u knw!

As a hopeless romantic girl, I dream a lot of perfect settings for a date.
Because I would spend my time with someone valuable to me, I would
want every moment a memorable one.

Here's my top 5 date list:

5. A sporty date - bowling/billiards/basketball

4. I love picnics! Who doesnt?

3. Stargazing. with meager food. and a lot of laughter!

2. Traveling and/or hiking. These are a few of my weaknesses.

1. Some parts of me still go old-fashioned. And ud say Im a copycat.
Dinner by the beach. Where other couples dine too. Then there's a jazzy music.
And we'll dance to the beat of that. :) And then here goes the perfect kiss.

Yeah yeah yeah. Whatever!!

Mask Parade : Adding a Little Drama

this world is real, only that it's a masquerade
u run into different masks, even enjoy the parade
oftentimes u think u knw ppl so well..
u forget what u see is just the cover..

and as much as they cling to their facade
u also hold on to yours, on ur face attached
what hurts is when u look at the mirror,
and u dont see the person u used to know..

in the quest for finding who u really are
you succumbed into being who u are not..
then they stare at u like they see ur mar..
fools, we're all the same, except ur minds are shut..

u stay away from hypocrisy
coz u dun wanna b judged the same way..
but those self-righteous throw stones and wont spare
wasting time, when u dont have enough of it to care..

guesz life's just not really fair
well, whatever it takes, i wont live in despair
i have a mask and im at a big masquerade
i'll dance and enjoy until this wall breaks..
